Last week Helical proudly celebrated the career of their Chairman Mike Slade who retired from the company at the AGM on Thursday 11th July.

Mike was appointed to the Helical Bar Board in 1984 and remained a member for 35 years during which time the Company has grown from a market capitalisation of circa £0.5m in August 1984 to circa £440m today.

Mike became one of the best-known figures in the British property industry not only for his judgement for the business but his tireless energy working for charitable causes, particularly LandAid which he helped grow from a fundraising event in 1986 to become the official charity of the property industry. LandAid supports vulnerable and homeless young people throughout the UK. More recently Mike has become involved with the Royal Marsden’s Appeal for the Oak Cancer Centre and has raised more than £56m to build a new cancer research and treatment centre at the hospital’s campus in Sutton. In 2019 Mike was awarded an OBE for his services to charity.

Mike, congratulations on a remarkable career and thank you for the successes and fun you have shared with everyone along the way. We wish you the very best of luck with your continued endeavours for charity and for a very happy and relaxing retirement.
