Helical continues to elevate its position as a sustainability leader in the London real estate market, with a flurry of buildings certifications, top-tier ESG recognition, and acknowledgement on Europe’s green stage. From high-performance buildings to a GRESB 5‑star status, inclusion in the Financial Times Europe’s Climate Leaders 2025, and receipt of the London Stock Exchange Green Economy Mark, Helical is paving the way for a more sustainable future.

Building certifications and ratings at 10 King William Street, EC2 and Brettenham House, WC2

A notable example of Helical’s sustainability credentials is the development at 10 King William Street, EC1 which recently received its Design Stage BREEAM certificate achieving a score of 92.9% and securing an Outstanding rating. Alongside this, 10 King William Street has also been awarded a NABERS Design for Performance Reviewed Target Rating of 5-stars. This is the first building within the Platinum Portfolio, Helical’s joint venture with Places for London, to achieve this milestone and sets a new standard for energy efficiency and sustainability within commercial offices.

We were also pleased to see the sustainability ambitions at Brettenham House, WC2, recently recognised with the receipt of a Design Stage BREEAM certificate achieving an Outstanding rating and the WELL precertification. This major refurbishment of an original Art Deco building posed several sustainability challenges which required the team to strike a careful balance between creating a highly energy-efficient, green asset while also preserving the building’s historic character.

Helical is also delivering strong sustainability results at 100 New Bridge Street, EC4. Set for completion in April 2026, this scheme is targeting EPC A, BREEAM Outstanding, NABERS 5‑Star, WELL Shell & Core Platinum, and WiredScore Platinum - demonstrating a comprehensive commitment to energy performance, health, and technological excellence.

GRESB 5‑Star Rating

Helical's sustainability performance has been recognised by GRESB with a 5-star rating received for both Developments and Standing Investments for the 2024 assessment period. Helical’s most recent score reflects an uplift from the previous year where a 4-star rating was received and reaffirms their continued commitment and ability to improve ESG reporting.

Alongside their overall GRESB score, Helical were pleased to receive an A rating for its GRESB Public Disclosure Report and were placed 4th within their comparison peer group. This rating demonstrates reporting and transparency excellence.

London Stock Exchange Green Economy Mark

Helical is among 101 companies to be recognised with the London Stock Exchange Green Economy Mark, signifying that Helical generates 50% or more of its annual revenue from green economy activities as per the LSE’s and FTSE Russell’s classification standards.

This Mark not only affirms Helical’s substantial alignment with the green economy but also enhances their visibility among sustainable investors and peers.

Financial Times’ Europe’s Climate Leaders 2025

Helical has again been listed in the Financial Times’ Europe’s Climate Leaders 2025, a prestigious independent ranking spotlighting companies across Europe that have delivered the most significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions intensity and demonstrated credible climate action.

Summary

Helical’s sustainability credentials in 2025 present a compelling and consistent narrative:

  • Consistent delivery of high-performing buildings.
  • GRESB 5‑star rating, demonstrating top-tier environmental, social, and governance capabilities.
  • Significant emissions and energy reductions.
  • Recognition by the London Stock Exchange, aligning Helical with the green economy via the Green Economy Mark.
  • European-wide acclaim, through inclusion in the FT’s Europe’s Climate Leaders 2025.

Together, these achievements reflect Helical’s “Built for the Future” strategy—not just a set of targets, but a tangible transformation in operations and buildings. As Helical refreshes this strategy beyond 2025 to align with a more developer mindset, the company stands well‑positioned to continue shaping sustainable development in London in the coming years.
